William Shakespeare’s plays are located in all kinds of European countries, his characters are pan-European; he shows himself to be critical of the corruptive forces of greed and power, and a truly humanitarian person. In his last play, Shakespeare let’s Thomas More plead for immigrants in need:
Whither would you go?
What country, by the nature of your error,
Should give you harbour? Go you to France or Flanders,
To any German province, Spain or Portugal,
Nay, anywhere that not adheres to England:
Why, you must needs be strangers.”
